2008; The Year That Was

Right from the beginning, 2008 was different than the previous years.

First came the frequent visits to KLIA, the tearful embraces and the goodbyes.

Followed by the start of college life where everything was foreign and new.
New people, new names, new friends.

But after a while, it didn't seem all that bad.

The faces of those who have touched my life, filled it fun, joy and laughter and have been there for me through it all.

And the person who has always been there, through the good times and bad times, the boyfriend.

Without you guys, I think my year might have sucked big time.
Do take notice of the word might. :)

Now, time to head out, play hard and usher in the new year at the brand spanking new Ng residence.

Here ends the last post of 2008 for Faith. Love. Hope.

2009, bring it on!

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Today, I got a christmas present courtesy of Tongue in Chic and Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!

Okay, it's not a christmas present but in fact part of my prize for winning the Fashion Up! contest.

I got a text from Anusha of Shoes, Shoes, Shoes who asked me to drop by to choose a pair of shoes to take home.

Needless to say, I couldn't wait and decided to drop by that instant.

Yes, I'm very free with nothing to do nowadays. :(

It was a tough choice to make, between a black patent crocodile print pump and a gold gladiator-inspired strappy wedge but in the end, I chose...

She's 4.1 inches with an elevation of 1inch at the ball of the foot for maximum comfort with perfectly stitched gold leather straps held together with a single silver buckle.

Many thanks to Tongue in Chic and Shoes, Shoes, Shoes.

Now we just need to make space in that already completely full shoe cupboard. :)

Merry Christmas

Christmas sneaked up one me this year.
I could've sworn it was just the 1st of December a couple of days ago.

Considering that my current day starts at 3pm and ends around 2am, my sense of timing is really, really out nowadays.

Merry Christmas to all of youuuuuuuuuu!

Though my Christmas Eve was far from perfect (involving a punctured tyre and what not) I certainly hope yours was!

And remember, today is only the first day of Christmas.
Eleven more to go. :)

Latest Recipe @ Le Meridien Hotel

Today was not supposed to be the first time I dined at the Latest Recipe.

In fact, I should've dined there months ago when Kevin first extended the invitation. Now, I can no longer remember what "unforseen circumstance" it was that prevented me from attending.

So when he asked me a second time, how could I say no?

And the first thing you see is the chocolate fountain (I'm told that there are actually supposed to be three fountains; milk, white and dark chocolate) which really makes you feel like jumping straight to dessert.

The Latest Recipe offers a variety of cuisines including Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Malay etc. etc. etc.

As usual, I made a beeline straight to the Japanese cuisine and what awaited me there was a selection of sushi, sashimi and temaki as well as a Teppanyaki counter.

Since I was determined not to fill up my tummy on just the Japanese food, I practiced self restrain when helping myself.

However, no amount of self restrain could stop me from going for a second round (and then a third and probably a fourth round) of the Teppanyaki.

The beef teppanyaki was good but what was really droolworthy was the prawn teppanyaki. The beef was tender, not overcooked at all and cut into bite size cubes which were infused with a peppery sauce. The prawns were really fresh, giving them a nice texture and were served in these creamy sauce which was to die for.

The Indian cuisine did not disappoint either with its many different choices of curries, papadoms, and chutneys which went perfectly with the naan bread.

What did disappoint however was the Pasta counter where I ordered a Carbonara which turned out to be extremely unappetizing. The whole "cooked in 5minutes right in front of your eyes" just simply won't give you a lovely Carbonara. In fact, it's impossible.

Up next was the tapas which I must admit, I mistook for desserts. In my defence, they looked pretty enough to be desserts.

The "Mango Slushie" which turned out to be some sort of vegetable soup.

Upon realising that I had in fact grabbed a tray full of non-desserts, I prepared myself to wait a little while more before indulging in everything sweet and sinful.

My guess here is that this is some sort of potato dish. I could definitely detect cheese and onions but the other ingredients are a mystery to me.

Even Chef-in-the-Making Jon couldn't figure this one out.

I've never not dared to eat something simply because I didn't know what it was. This little feller over here was no exception. I assumed it was a chunk of cheese and popped it into my mouth. The taste wasn't pleasant and was extremely overpowering. Washing it down with water simply was not enough. Desserts would have to come in and save my poor tastebuds.

First up was the Waffle counter. Since I'm not such a big fan of waffles, I gave it a pass though Jon mentioned that they were only mediocre. Nevertheless, the fact that he was too greedy to wait for a fresh batch could've contributed to his judgement. Cold waffles are an absolute no-no.

The cheesecake was delicious though I do think they could've made their biscuit base a little thicker.

This was some sort of chocolate coated wafer filled with chocolate mouse. I took the whole piece in one bite only to discover that the wafer had gotten soft. Not nice at all.

And then it was onwards to the chocolate fountain! I had a tough time deciding what to dip into the molten dark chocolate but in the end decided to go with the marshmallows and grapes which are classic dipping material.

After all that food, I swear my tummy was prepared to burst but no way was I going off without trying their famous teppanyaki ice cream!

First up, choose your flavour of ice cream. From amongst Vanilla, Strawberry, Coconut, Chocolate, Green Tea and Coffee, I chose Vanilla.

Next up, choose from a huge selection of condiments what you want to go with your ice cream. There were all kinds of nuts (pecan, almond, walnut...), wafers, candies (even gummy bears!), chocolate chips, rainbow sprinkles and the list goes on and on and on.

It was chocolate chips, macadamia nuts and wafer sticks for me.

They start by getting the ice cream nice and ready. Flatten it a little, spread it out.

Throw on the condiments and it's teppanyaki time!

Yes, I do realise it hardly looks appetizing. Kinda looks like some mashed up food a kid's been playing with.

But then the chef scrapes it into a bowl and generously pours chocolate sauce onto it and it doesn't look so bad after all.

I needed no motivation to dig right in. The crunchy wafer bits went well with the ice cream and so did the macadamia nuts and chocolate chips (good choice la Rachel!). Though it was good, there isn't really anything to scream about. It's just ice cream with a personal touch and some fancy preparation.

As a whole, the food was pretty decent and you do get your money's worth. Not to mention the restaurant itself has a lovely ambiance and not to mention a neat view (which btw includes our National Museum).

You'll pay RM68++ for Lunch and RM78++ for Dinner on weekdays. As for weekends, it's an additional RM10. However, if you'd rather just pig out on dessert, that can be done as they charge RM38++ for their Dessert buffet.

And if you're a a privilege card holder (I'm sure there's a right name for it, I'm just not sure what it is), one of your guest dines for free. Now, that's really value for your money.

University of Warwick: Offer Received

My internet was being temperamental last night, absolutely refusing to access the UCAS Track page.

Thank God it finally decided to give in today and here it is, an offer from Warwick Uni.

And yet another triple A offer with Further Maths.

Now, all that's left is LSE.

Tis the Season for Reunions

With the return of those who ditched us to "further their education overseas", a Wesley reunion was in order.

And since it was at KwangYang's place which btw, is all the way in Valencia the drivers for the day insisted upon leaving at 4, a good 3hours before we were supposed to be there.

To entertain themselves, they'd decided to play tennis which meant we girls ie. Carmen and I had to entertain ourselves.

So... What do two girls do to entertain themselves?

Well, they take a stroll in the golf course, dodge stray golf balls and avoid speeding buggy drivers and at the same time, try to chase a bunch of maids walking dogs in high heels!

Yeap, that's exactly what girls do to entertain themselves these days.

Oh, they camwhore too. :)

And 3hours later, old faces started turning up which caused a massive outbreak of hugs.

But yeah, it was really good seeing every single one of them.
Reminds me of the good old days.

On a sidenote, everyone seems to be telling me that I'm looking very tired nowadays.

Blame the fact that my nocturnal hours have given me eyebags and also, the fact that I'm sick thanks to the chocolate fountain in my house.

Fleur de Lis will be in Bangsar tomorrow.
Yet another opportunity to end up broke.
Oh joy.

Pink Martinee @ Mist Club

Headed down to the Mist Club in Bangsar for the launch of their Pink Martinee, the club's Wednesday nights.

Like, finally.
A club near home. :)

It was my first time there.
Though I do frequent it's neighbour quite a bit which btw, is not another club but instead a huge ass florist.

And my outfit for the night was designed by none other than Ms. Julia Leong.

Well, my top at least.

Ain't it pretty? :)

It was one of her pieces from the collection she showcased at the mifa8 Fashion Forward.

And the star attraction of the night; Jes Brieden.

If you don't know who she is, go Google her.

Just kidding. :)

Jes Brieden is the official female singer for DJ Tiesto.
Yeap, that lady singing in Tiesto's tracks is none other than Jes.

First they brought in Lil Jon to launch Friday night's Lollipop.
And now, Jes for Wednesday's Pink Martinee.

I wonder who's next...

Fashion Up!

This is officially the fourth post entitled Fashion Up!

No, it's not that I've run out of ideas for post titles.
It's just that Fashion Up! is what this post is about.

Well, in conjuction with Fashion Up!, TiC had a contest where bloggers were invited to share their experiences at any of the participating boutiques.

And that probably explains my last few posts on Fashion Up! now doesn't it? :)

Now, back to the main reason of this post.

Well, to put it simply, I was one of the winners.
The 3rd prize winner to be exact.

YAYYYYYYY!!

Damn, it's hard to express my happiness through a blog post.
Capital letters and exclamation marks can only do so much.

But anyway, I got myself 2 dresses from Nurita Harith as well as a pair of shoes from Shoes, Shoes, Shoes.

The grand prize winner, Jennifer got herself a 4days/3nights stay at Indigo Pearl Hotel, Phuket and also a pair of shoes from Shoes, Shoes, Shoes.

While 2nd prize winner, Grace got herself a RM500 giftpack from Storybook Couture as well as a pair of shoes from Shoes, Shoes, Shoes.

Click here for the TiC official results page.

Thank you Tongue in Chic. :)

The Day The Earth Stood Still

Keanu Reeves stars as Klaatu in this remake of the 1951 movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still alongside Jennifer Connelly as Dr. Helen and Jaden Smith as Jacob.

The film started off pretty well I must say.

When an unidentified spherical object is found making it's way towards the Earth, a first response team which includes Dr. Helen is dispatched.

The sphere lands in New York's Central Park, Dr. Helen makes contact with a being which ends up getting shot and all hell breaks loose with big metal man, GORT disabling the army's fire power and shooting rays out of its eyes.

Thus begins the day the Earth stood still.

"Are you aware of an impending attack on the planet Earth?"
"You should let me go."

I won't say much more, go watch the movie yourself!

Especially not how the aliens plan to wipe out the human race as it is a pretty neat visual. Check out how the Shea Stadium was completely destroyed.

All in all, The Day The Earth Stood Still was mediocre.

Rated 5/10 by yours truly. :)

Fashion Up!

If you didn't already know, Shoes, Shoes, Shoes will be one of the Malaysian boutiques featured at this weekend's Fashion Up!

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes is this lovely boutique in Bangsar which sells.. well, shoes and more!

Located on Jalan Telawi 3, this quaint little shop has the most darling collection of shoes and the best part is that the price is really affordable.

Once upon a time, actually it was just last year, I was looking for a pair of heels for prom.

Yes, the perfect pair of heels are essential from prom.

My hunt led me to Shoes, Shoes, Shoes as I was looking for something different.

No way did I want to get the same pair of heels as some other girl.

Fyi, another girl had just bought the exact same prom dress as me a few days ago but let's save that story for another day.

As usual, the shoes were gorgeous but nothing suited my dress.

And then.. I saw the most amazing pair of heels ever.

They were an open-toed strappy pair, with a slender stilleto quite easily 4 inches high and it was a brilliant iridescent emerald-sapphire-ish colour but that wasn't it...

What made the heels so amazing was the magnificent plumage of peacock feathers fixed to the back of the hell which resembled the actual tail of a peacock.

It was just wow.

At that point in time, I had no qualms about finding a new dress to match those heels.

Besides, my prom's theme was Moulin Rouge. Just perfect.

So I turned to the lady and asked, "How much are those?" while at the same time praying that they wouldn't cost a bomb.

Her response was something unexpected.

"Oh, those aren't for sale."

My immediate reaction was dismay which quickly led to a slight annoyance that I wouldn't get to own that wonderful pair of shoes which finally ended in disappointment.

I actually told the lady I'd be willing to pay any price for the shoes.
Yeap, that was the spoilt brat part of me talking.
But alas, there are somethings money can't buy.

And so, that's my Shoes, Shoes, Shoes story which did not have a happy ending.

Btw, I ended up buying a pair of Vincci heels and with my cursed luck, someone else turned up with the same pair for prom. Talk about bad luck. :(

Guess who was at Happy Hippyz?
Shopaholix Bar and Colour Me Pretty!

Booth owners for the day; Chris, Suat and yours truly
Ignore the stupid face :)

All I can say is that today's sales were bad.
In fact, bad might even be understatement. :(

I'm too tired too blog much.
Boo, I think I just might've wasted my Saturday.

Twilight

Some people absolutely hated it (most of them were boys).
While others raved about it (most of them were girls).
And so, I had to see it for myself.

Though first of all, let's make it clear that I did not watch the movie for Robert Pattinson.

I do not find him the slightest bit attractive.

In fact, no one in the movie is exceptionally good looking.
Check out the Cullen siblings and of course, Isabella Swan.

Emmett and Rosalie aren't exactly head turners.
Alice might have sharp features and a cheeky grin but that's it.
And well, Jasper does indeed look as though he's being silently tortured.

Which was all pretty disappointing considering it was mentioned several times in the book that they were all gorgeous.

At first, I thought Bella was quite a looker.
This was said based on posters and screenshots I'd come across.
But after seeing her in the movie, I changed my mind.

The only individual who could've been considered eye-candy was Dr. Calisle Cullen.

Now, that is one doctor I wouldn't mind visiting. :)

Well, moving on to the movie.
It was simply so so.

It wasn't captivated by it but neither was I waiting for the credits to roll.

What didn't agree with me was the fact that the vampires were completely fangless.

I mean hello, fangs add to the sexual appeal. Don't you know?

But what I found totally cool was the Cullen's house, Edward's room in particular.
If only my new house could resemble that..

Twilight gets a 5/10 from me.
