Yeah, I know the poster says March 12 and today's only the 11
th but thanks to
Nuffnang, I managed to catch the movie last night. (:
From
manga to
anime and then video game, it was only a matter of time before
DBE joined the ranks of the live-action motion pictures.
Dragonball; Evolution, a show which had so much potential in becoming a
kickass movie, turned out to be not so
kickass after all at all.
The show begins with
Goku (
Justin Chatwin) training in his grandfather's backyard. Enter:
Gohan (
Randall Duk Kim),
Goku's grandfather and the two begin to spar which is the first bit of action in
DBE. The martial art choreography was pretty decent (
especially the bit where Goku hurls a fly into Gohan's mouth) and the movie was looking pretty good right until
Gohan attacks with his signature move, the
Invisible Crane Kick and all hopes of
DBE turning out to be awesome evaporated.
What went wrong? Everything looked so fake.
Won't go into detail about the movie though I will say this.
DBE was pretty short, possibly around 1hr 30
mins and the scenes were so rushed through. I mean, the
Goku-Piccolo fight lasted for about 2minutes and I only got to see a
Kame-
Hame-Ha once!
Nevertheless, there were certain bits that were pretty cool. Like when
Bulma (
Emmy Rossum) tosses out a tiny piece of
sth from her pocket, presses a button and that tiny piece of
sth transforms into a snazzy looking bike. And oh, Master
Roshi's (
Chow Yun-Fat) abode which was like a double-storey shack which stood amidst towering skyscrapers got an, "
Oooh" out of me.
So yeah, if you've got nothing better to do or if you still insist on watching
Dragonball; Evolution, it's out in cinemas tomorrow.
